It’s Tuesday night and you want to hear some live jazz or blues in a place that doesn’t break the bank, is easy to park and you’re away from the mass of humanity clogging the Strip. Three places offer great variety, all located close to, but off the Strip.

Larry (Wild) Wrice and the Gents of Swing play straight ahead jazz and old standards at Capozzoli’s Italian Restaruant and Bar – also known as Rocco’s, the new owner. Larry is on double bass drums, Bruce Harris on keys and Gary Sprewell on upright bass. Guest singers, musicians sit in. Italian menu available, no cover charge. Dance Floor. SMOKE FREE. Celebrating one year at Capozzoli’s. Congratulations Larry and Louise! SW corner of Desert Inn & Maryland Pkwy. 7pm-11pm

Nik at Nite, formerly at Capozzoli’s, now at El Patron Mexican Restaurant. Nik Mastrangelo, vocalist, is accompanied by Larry Millonzi on keys and John Plows on drums. Special guests sit in. Song stylings from jazz and standards of American and Italian popular music. Mexican menu. 2797 S. Maryland Parkway. Same location as the old Elephant Bar. SMOKE FREE. 702-791-6988 7pm-10:30 pm

Blues at the Sand Dollar. Guest Blues Groups ignite this used-to-be biker bar that’s gone civilized. I’ve been there many times and it is perfectly safe. Expressive dancing, no partner necessary. Check out their website for current artists. 3344 Spring Mtn Rd, enter parking lot from Polaris. NON-SMOKE FREE. 702-871-6651. music goes on late. www.sanddollarblues.com
