Progressive & Modern Jazz @ Tuscany

Tim Bratt plays on Sunday and Monday nights at the Piazza Lounge, which is by the reception desk in the Hotel. Don’t go to the Casino – they were clueless. While Tim anchors both nights with his innovative and unique approach to drums, he has two very different groups on those two nights.

Sunday night is the Tim Bratt Quartet playing a jazz that Tim describes as progressive – very mental, intricate, abstract to the ear. You must be a true lover of jazz to appreciate the complicated switches and bridges. Tim explains that Sunday night’s music is post 1960.

Tim labels Monday night as modern traditional jazz, but I would stress the modern.

Take the chance to talk to Tim during break. He is extremely articulate about his craft and has a definite vision of what he wants to accomplish on the Las Vegas jazz scene. He is a warm and compassionate young man with a day job working with troubled kids. Unassuming and profound, Tim’s talent is impressive. I love the rich texture of his drumming; he utilizes sticks, brushes, fingertips, ends of brushes, gentle pings on the cymbals, any variety of percussive, but always subtle sounds.

8:30p-midnite. No cover charge. Piazza Lounge, Tuscany Hotel and Casino, East Flamingo at Howard Hughes Parkway. Las Vegas NV
