1st Annual “Legends of Jazz” Conversation
Clubs & Assns, FREE, Fundraisers | Sandra | March 22, 2007 at 09:38Joanne Gilbert is the queen of Las Vegas jazz and she has dedicated an enormous amount of energy and love to promote the wonderful talent we have in this city. Her latest promotion is the first “Legends of Jazz” conversation to be held at the Doc Rando Hall, Ham Fine Arts Bldg UNLV campus. The featured jazzmasters are Gerald Wilson and Jimmy Wilkins with Tom Hall as moderator. Sat Mar 31 from noon-1:00 pm. This is a free event open to the public. My suggestion is to park in the parking structure behind the Fine Arts complex, access from Maryland Pkwy.
Immediately following the “conversation” is the 2nd Annual “This Great Day in Las Vegas!” musician group photo-shoot. The photo will be taken on the steps behind Ham Hall. Musicians ONLY please for the photo, but we jazz lovers can watch and enjoy. Widows of musicians (and I’ll assume widowers as well) are invited to participate and welcomed to bring 8×10 pix of their spouses. You are strongly urged to come and be part of the photo that will help memorialize our rich jazz history. Contact Joanne by email: jazz@joannes.us or call 702-255-7552. The photo will be available for sale, proceeds of which will benefit the UNLV Jazz Studies Program which is sponsoring the event.
Joanne is the editor of Jazz Notes, the newsletter of the Las Vegas Jazz Society.
