Tropicana Cinemas is re-opened
Discounts, the Arts | Sandra | May 28, 2007 at 14:50This probably is not all that news-worthy for most of you, but I felt especially saddened by the closure of Las Vegas’ only independent movie theatre a couple of months ago. It happened in the midst of the CineVegas Art House Screening Series, who had to hustle to find a new venue at Neonopolis literally from one day to the next. But it looks like the Tropicana is back, under the name of Tropicana Cinemas with a new twist of popcorn and soda included in your ticket price. $10 adults/$8 children/$8 matinees before 6pm. Not much fanfare, but I’m glad to see it back – keep hoping for an art house movie theatre in Vegas. Check out the new website MoviesVegas.com or call 702-243-SHOW (7469). 3330 E Tropicana Av Las Vegas NV.

My wife and I went to Tropicana Cinemas a few weeks back to see Shrek the Third, and we were literally the only people in the building other than the employees. It is probably important to note that the picture was poorly lit, the film print was scratched all to hell, and the sound was extremely muffled. We did enjoy the free popcorn and soda though.
It looked like they may have literally opened the doors days before we went, so things were still pretty much in shambles. There were only three screens up and running, it looked like the previous owners did some damage to the interior in their rush to leave.
We will probably check the theatre out again in a week or so. Hopefully things will be in better shape when we return. I am all for supporting an independent theatre, as long as they strive to provide a pleasant experience.
