az.JPGWhere is Baku? Azerbaijan is part of the old Soviet Union, a fascinating corner of the world on the Caspian Sea in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Close to Turkey, Iraq and across the Caspian from Iran, it was one of the first areas of the world to exploit its oil resources. Known as a crossroad of cultures, there was historically a generous mix of Orthodox Christians, Eastern Catholics, Armenian Christians and Muslims.
