Ban Ki-Moon tells Security Council “Act Now”

South Korean Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations became an international hero today when he spoke bluntly and forcibly before the UN Security Council on behalf of the Libyan people. He tells them that UN has duty to protect.

“This is an historic turning point. Now is the time for action. The international community must rise to the occasion.”

“I urge the (Security) Council to consider concrete action.”

“The violence must stop… Those responsible must be punished.”

“Loss of time means more loss of lives. Now is the time to act.”

In response to journalist’s question if he will try to talk to Gaddafi again: “Gaddafi justifies and defends his position.”

In response to journalist’s question if he supports military action: “I have asked the Council to consider a wide range of actions.”
