Free Libya on Ides of March

A Point of View, Libya, Middle East & North Africa, Politics | | March 15, 2011 at 11:31

Just when things looked so dark, I had begun to despair, Free Libya struck back today with their own jets. They sank two Gaddafi Libyan ships that had been bombarding from sea and bombed the tarmac at Gaddafi’s Gardabya Airport in his hometown of Sirte. It’s also reported that the defected Free Libyan air force has bombarded three Gaddafi military convoys.

While the world stands by and does nothing except talk, Gaddafi mercenaries go door-to-door in Zawiya, terrorizing the city, stealing from the people, arresting suspected opposition sympathizers. Gaddafi forces bombard the civilian population in Ajdabiya. Explosions and gunfire are heard again at Bab al Azizia, Gaddafi’s military compound in Tripoli. State TV tells the public that it’s celebrations, but rumors abound of executions of those who refuse to fight. LibyaFeb17.com is reporting a fire at the compound.

Today is the Ides of March. Caesar met his end in the Roman Senate today a couple of thousand years ago. A dictator fell at the hands of his inner circle. Et tu Brute? And you too, Brutus? Where is the Libyan Brutus? Be nice to think Gaddafi could meet his end in like manner.
