Speaking of Dependency on Oil
Earth, Politics | Sandra | March 24, 2007 at 20:08There is an email circulating that warns of the strategic name change of CITGO to PETRO EXPRESS and that we should all be aware that CITGO-PETRO EXPRESS are one in the same Venezuelan oil company.
Just in case you didn’t know, President Chavez of Venezuela is pretty unfriendly to the USA, but not unfriendly enough to ignore loss of sales revenues stateside. Apparently there is a groundswell boycott going on among some US customers, who are refusing to purchase gasoline from a guy who talks about us so nastily to his friends (President of Iran) and South American neighbors.
I’m not saying that I don’t understand Chavez’s point of view. I wouldn’t like being totally dominated by my big neighbor to the north, and I’d probably want to assert some independence myself. But there might be some logic in refusing to feed someone who bites you. Especially if there are plenty of other petroleum companies we can support in their exploitation.
