For those of you who don’t know, the Gladiators are members of the AFL (Arena Football League). Founded in 1997, they are part of the Western division of the American Conference. According to Wikipedia, arena football is a sport invented by Jim Forster of the US Football League and the NFL. He came up with the idea of indoor (arena) football while watching an indoor soccer game in 1981 at Madison Square Gardens in NYC. He launched the Arena Football League in 1987 based on a specific set of patented rules. Minor league AFL, known as af2, was initiated in 2000.
